GuSano_

Gusano is a proposal for ephemeral architecture aimed at creating a climatic island—that is, improving the temperature or thermal perception of a large space that receives intense sunlight throughout the summer.

Concéntrico, a festival that opens the door to exploring this type of installation, takes place in Logroño and focuses on highlighting the cultural impact of architecture.

Our proposal is based on a study of air currents, sunlight, and the needs of inhabiting a space. Gusano is a structure whose section functions as a pergola, transitioning from one condition to another in a movement reminiscent of a vertebral motion.

Conceptually, we were inspired by natural movements—both of elements like wind and air, as well as by flora and fauna.

key element in conceiving the architecture was its visual impact. Gusano is situated in a vast, uninhabited space where the sun beats down relentlessly, and there are no evident signs of human activity. This is due to its high exposure to sunlight and the lack of infrastructure that would enable a comfortable use of the area.

Based on these observations, our primary goal was, first and foremost, to create a striking visual impact that would capture the attention of passersby, and secondly, to improve the thermal conditions of the space.

Light and shadow play a crucial role in the project. Shade is not only a necessity but also a scenographic element, casting intricate patterns on the ground that shift throughout the day, transforming the environment into a pleasantly dreamlike space.
